Supporters of the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Sunday stormed his residence in Kano in a show of solidarity, following the recent defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, from the party.

Kwankwaso disclosed the visit in a statement posted on his official Facebook page, saying the supporters came from the Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state.

Former governor of Kano State expressed gratitude to the supporters for what he described as their steadfastness during a difficult period for the party and its leadership.

According to him, the visit underscored the resilience of the Kwankwasiyya movement despite recent political developments.

“This afternoon, I was honoured to receive a solidarity visit at my residence in Kano from the resilient people of Nasarawa Local Government,” Kwankwaso said.

“In our discussions, I reaffirmed my profound appreciation for their unwavering courage and determination.”

Kwankwaso noted that the supporters’ decision to remain with him was not driven by personal interest but by a shared commitment to the collective good of the people.

“Despite the recent trials that have tested the faith and fortitude of many, they have chosen to stand firmly with us—not for personal gain, but for the collective progress and wellbeing of our people,” he stated.

He added that the movement remained focused on its core values.

“Together, we remain resolute in upholding and advancing the timeless ideals of Kwankwasiyya,” he said.

Reassuring his supporters, Kwankwaso expressed optimism about the future of the movement, describing their loyalty as a source of renewed strength.

“Thank you once again for your loyalty and solidarity. The journey continues, and victory is assured by the grace of God and the will of the people,” he added.

The visit came days after Governor Yusuf defected from the NNPP to the ruling All Progressives Congress, a move that has stirred political reactions across Kano State.

Kwankwaso has since openly expressed disappointment over the governor’s decision, declaring the day Yusuf left the party as “World Betrayal Day”.
