Dr. Gbemisola Odusote Historic Appointment

She was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, effective January 10, 2026, for a four-year term.

Dr. Odusote makes history as the first woman to ever lead the Nigerian Law School since it was established in 1962.

Education

She earned her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from Obafemi Awolowo University.

She was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988.

She holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from the same university, specializing in company and commercial law.

Dr. Odusote later completed a Ph.D. in Law at the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom, with her research focusing on public law and the administration of justice.

Professional Career

She joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer.
State House
Over more than two decades at the institution, she has held several senior roles:
Head of the Academic Department
Director of Academics
Head of Campus
Deputy Director-General and Head of the Lagos Campus (her role before this appointment)

She also served as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK, further broadening her academic experience.

Scholarship & Professional Contributions
Dr. Odusote is a published legal scholar, with works in reputable local and international law journals.

She has presented papers at numerous legal education conferences.

She has served on committees for key legal institutions, including:
Council of Legal Education
Nigerian Bar Association (NBA)

Role as Director-General
As Director-General, she will be responsible for:
Providing overall academic leadership and strategic direction for the Nigerian Law School across its campuses.

Managing the institution’s administrative functions.
State House
Acting as the principal liaison with major legal bodies such as the Council of Legal Education, Body of Benchers, and the NBA.
