Dunukofia Healthy Living Team, Ukpo Chapter, Flags Off Community Women Football Tournament
The Dunukofia Healthy Living Football Tournament, Ukpo Chapter, has officially commenced, attracting excitement from residents, sports enthusiasts, and community leaders.
The opening match set the tone for the competition, with Akpu Tigers (yellow) defeating Oranto United (red) 2–0. Aganabo Mmesoma Lilian, popularly known as Ojawa, emerged as the standout player, netting both goals—first from a well-taken penalty and later through a precise, tactical finish.
The Deputy Mayor of Dunukofia, Hon. Mrs. Chinweze Lilian Ujunwa, performed the ceremonial kickoff. She expressed delight at the growing participation of women in community sports and praised the Ukpo Healthy Living Team for championing wellness through the tournament. She also announced that Ifitedunu would soon launch its own edition as part of the broader wellness expansion across the LGA.
In attendance was the wife of the Mayor of Dunukofia, who applauded the Ukpo Healthy Living Team for their dedication to health-focused initiatives such as road walks, fitness sessions, and community exercises. She encouraged other communities in Dunukofia to emulate Ukpo, assuring them of her full support.
The Leader of the Dunukofia Congress of Councillors, Hon. Moses Okeke, commended Mrs. Ozumba, head of the Dunukofia Healthy Living initiative, for her continuous efforts in sustaining health-oriented programs across the LGA. He urged participants to remain committed and purpose-driven.
The Dunukofia Supervisor for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Harrison A. Nwegwu, hailed the women players for confidently showcasing their talent, reiterating that “women too can play.” He further announced the upcoming Dunukofia Games Festival scheduled to begin on December 7, encouraging them to join their community teams. He noted that the Mayor of Dunukofia, Chijioke C. Ozumba, Esq., is working to ensure this year’s festival offers an exciting experience for all.
