Ebonyi Govt begins boundary demarcation between Abaomege, Ishinkwo
The Ebonyi State Government has commenced the demarcation of the boundary between the two communities of Abomege and Ishinkwo in Onicha Local Government Area of the state.
A viral Facebook video, circulated by the Public Relations Officer of the local government area, Omenkannaya Orogwu, via his Facebook page, shows earth-moving machines under the supervision of the local government chairman, Ikechukwu Ogbuoffia, accompanied by security agents, executing the demarcation.
In the video, Orogwu, who traced the hostilities between the people of Abomege and Ishinkwo back to 1912, claimed that over 1,000 lives had been lost in the conflict.
He stated in the video: “This marks the commencement of the boundary demarcation between the Abomege and Ishinkwo communities. We are here to witness this historic moment in the lives of these communities.
“Recall that the hostilities between the two communities began as far back as 1912. But today, to the glory of God, the Governor of Ebonyi State, in collaboration with the Chairman of Onicha Local Government Area, has taken a bold step to bring a permanent end to these hostilities, which have ravaged the two communities.
“It is no exaggeration to say that this war, which began in 1912, has claimed over 1,000 lives. We give God all the glory for giving us Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.
“Recall that many successive administrations could not take this bold step that the governor is taking today, in collaboration with the Chairman of Onicha Local Government Area.
“Our role is to continue praying for the two of them to succeed in their efforts to end these hostilities and restore peace and tranquility in all the troubled areas of the state. We are happy that this is happening in our time and before our very eyes.
“The people of the two communities should rest assured that the government stands with them. Governor Nwifuru shares in their pain, and that is why this bold step is being taken today.
“Let it be on record once again that this is happening during the tenure of Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru. Let it also be known that it is through the collaborative effort of our dear Chairman of Onicha Local Government Area that this is being achieved.”

Abuja hotel collapse: Wike orders arrest of owner, to convert land to public use
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate arrest of the owner of a multi-story hotel that collapsed in Jikwoyi, Abuja last Friday, April 4 and announced that the land would be seized for public use.
LIB had reported that the building crumbled while workers were on site, triggering an emergency response from relevant authorities.
Visiting the site today April 7, Wike said the building was constructed without approval from the FCT Department of Development Control and that all the stop-work notices sent to the builders were ignored by the developer.
Wike confirmed that while there were no fatalities, several people sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital. He warned that the outcome could have been far worse.
Announcing the government’s plans for the land, Wike said the FCT Administration will take over the land for public use, noting that those responsible for the illegal construction will face prosecution in accordance with the law.
He added that the local community would be consulted to determine a suitable public-purpose project for the reclaimed site.
