A disturbing incident was recorded along Utsu–Okigwe road after residents found a young woman unclothed and visibly confused.

Eyewitnesses said a man who was pretending to be mentally unstable had allegedly dragged her into the nearby bush and took advantage of her. They did not meet him, but they met the woman n*ked and disoriented.

When questioned, she struggled to recall her identity. She first said her name was Uju, then changed it, later mentioning she was from a place called Amiza in Olusa. She repeatedly told those around that her entire family was dead, insisting they were all killed in her village.

Throughout the conversation, she appeared confused and unable to explain how she got there. At one point, those around said she even tried to walk back in the direction of the man before they stopped her.

The Legislative Arm of the National Association of Ogun State Students, NAOSS, has said, the Thursday’s election held to swear in new executive members of the association was illegal and conducted by impostors.

The student body stated that the election allegedly carried out by individuals attempting to mislead the association was also conducted without the supervision, approval, or involvement of the duly constituted Convention Planning Committee (CPC) Chairman, who was legally appointed by the Legislative Arm.

According to the students body this was a fundamental breach and rendered the process invalid.

The students in a statement signed by the Senate president, Omole Ayomade and clerk, Akinsola Prisca, on Friday, said the “so-called elected president and some other aspirants involved in the illegal process are already graduates and therefore ineligible to contest under NAOSS rules.”

The statement reads, “The Legislative Arm of the National Association of Ogun State Students, NAOSS, hereby addresses the unlawful activities recently carried out by individuals attempting to mislead the association.

“An illegal election was conducted on Thursday, without the supervision, approval, or involvement of the duly constituted Convention Planning Committee (CPC) Chairman, who was legally appointed by the Legislative Arm. This fundamental breach alone renders the process invalid.

“In addition, individuals who falsely paraded themselves as Senators were used to create the appearance of legitimacy. The so-called elected president and some other aspirants involved in this illegal process are already graduates and therefore ineligible to contest under NAOSS rules.

“Most troubling, the mace earlier declared missing by the Legislative Arm was found in the possession of these perpetrators. Any gathering where this missing mace is used is unconstitutional and automatically illegal. The Legislative Arm therefore declares that the said election is null, void, and of no effect. It has no legitimacy, no recognition, and no authority within NAOSS.”

They commended the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, their swift intervention to halt the process, saying their calm engagement prevented disorder and protected the integrity of NAOSS.

“We deeply appreciate the effort of the Nigeria police force, in defending the constitution of our noble association. Their prompt intervention in stopping an illegal gathering/election on Thursday 11th of December, at NLC secretariat leme, Abeokuta, speaks volumes of how proactive the police command in Ogun state operates.

“The maturity and due process demonstrated by the officers on the ground and their timely action safeguarded genuine student leaders from manipulation and reaffirmed our trust in the Police as a dependable institution committed to peace and the rule of law.”

The association, however, called for sustained vigilance and continuous collaboration with the police command to prevent future disruptions or chaos in its coming elections slated for Saturday, 13th December 2025.

The Legislative Arm added that it will be held under the supervision of the legally constituted Convention Planning Committee and reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of NAOSS and upholding the constitution that binds them.

The Supreme Court, on Friday, reaffirmed the death sentence that was handed to the daughter-in-law of a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Maryam Sanda, for committing culpable homicide.

An Abuja high court had, on January 27, 2020, sentenced her to death by hanging after she was found guilty of stabbing her husband, Bilyamin Bello, to death at their Abuja residence in 2017.

Though she had already spent about six years and eight months at the Suleja prison, President Bola Tinubu, in the exercise of his executive powers, reduced her total sentence to 12 years.

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, explained that her inclusion in the recent presidential pardon was based on “compassionate ground and in the best interest of the children,” listing some of the qualities that earned her clemency to include “good conduct, embraced new lifestyle, model to prisoners and remorsefulness.”

Meanwhile, a five-member panel of justices of the apex court, in a split judgement of four to one, on Friday, restated the judicial pronouncement that ordered her death by hanging.

The court resolved all the issues she raised to set aside her conviction and sentence against her and dismissed her appeal for want of merit.

In the lead verdict that was delivered by Justice Moore Adumein, the apex court held that the prosecution established her guilt beyond every reasonable doubt.

It held that the Court of Appeal’s decision that upheld the sentence that was passed by the trial court was unassailable.

The Supreme Court held that it was wrong for President Tinubu, being the head of the executive arm of the government, to seek to exercise his powers to grant pardon over a case of culpable homicide, in respect of which an appeal was pending.
