EPL: Man City midfielder, De Bruyne in talks with next club

Man City midfielder, De Bruyne

Chicago Fire FC is in talks with Manchester City midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne, on a designated player contract, according to ESPN.

Fire will have the inside track to sign De Bruyne if he moves to MLS.

The Belgian confirmed he would be leaving the Premier League champions at the end of this season.

The 33-year-old’s contract with City is set to expire in June.

Inter Miami CF still has De Bruyne’s discovery rights, which is a right-of-first refusal mechanism MLS uses to prevent its teams from bidding against one another for a player’s services.

But Miami already has the maximum number of DPs with Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi, although all three are out of contract at the end of the season.

That appears to have opened the door for the Fire.

New York City FC and D.C. United have also reportedly expressed interest, but Chicago, with only two DPs on its roster and ambitious ownership in Joe Mansueto, appears to be an ideal landing spot should De Bruyne decide to play in MLS.

Transfer: Rashford snubs move to three Man Utd’s EPL rivals

Manchester United forward, Marcus Rashford, has turned down moves to three Premier League clubs so far.

This comes amid speculation that Barcelona are considering signing the 27-year-old.

The three English teams Rashford has snubbed are believed to be Chelsea, Newcastle and Aston Villa.

Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Villa and is seeking a permanent move away from United.

Barcelona, however, have made a move for Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams their priority this summer.

Williams has a €58 million (£48.1m) release clause in his deal and was close to joining the LaLiga champions last year.

According to Sport, Barca are now intent to make the transfer happen, but will still consider signing Rashford alongside the Spain winger.

EPL: Klopp warns Wirtz over Liverpool move

Ex-Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp, has warned summer signing Florian Wirtz about meeting expectations at the Premier League champions.

The £116m that the Reds will pay Bayer Leverkusen for the 22-year-old, makes him the most expensive British player.

And Klopp fears that the price tag will put a target on Wirtz’s back.

He however hailed Wirtz as an “outstanding player”, while stating that the playmaker will be “aware” of his substantial fee.

“There’s no question about it, it’s an insane sum, and one that a player at Liverpool is aware of if things don’t go well for two or three games,” Klopp told Welt.

“He’s an outstanding player who can give any club something great.

“Whether he’ll make the reigning English champions even better remains to be seen.”
