Expedite on S’East projects, Ndigbo committed to your re-election – Ohanaeze tells Tinubu
Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has declared that the lgbo stand committed to supporting President Bola Tinubu until 2031, while calling for the completion of all major projects in the South-East zone ahead of 2027 elections.
Ohanaeze said for the temporary opening of Lagos-Calabar coastal Highway, the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi has distinguished himself.
The group stated that the prestigious recognition of Umahi is a testament to his exceptional commitment to the tenets of public service, demonstrated through the timely execution of critical road projects, rigorous field oversight of ongoing construction works, and engaging communities across the six geopolitical zones via town hall meetings and public enlightenment events.
Ohanaeze hailed President Bola Tinubu for his decision to appoint an Igbo man and professional engineer to serve as Minister of Works, an event remarkable in its significance as it marks the first instance in 74 years, since 1951, that an Igbo individual has occupied the vital position.
The organization noted that the impacts of Umahi’s tenure had resonated across all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria, reaffirming the confidence of the Nigerian populace in the administration of President Tinubu.
This was contained in a statement issued at the weekend by Ohanaeze’s factional Deputy President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and Chief Chinenyeze Ohia, National spokesperson and made available to Ekwutosblog.
The organisation said: “Without hesitation, we, the Ndigbo, declare forthrightly: for the first time since 2015, we are witnessing a political landscape where all five Southeast Governors, all five Igbo Ministers, and the entire Southeast region stand unwaveringly loyal to President Tinubu’s re-election campaign for 2027.
“In recognition of the recent temporary opening of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway on the 12th of December 2025, Ohanaeze Ndigbo acknowledges this remarkable achievement.
“It is a significant milestone that enhances festive season travel and provides much-needed relief to millions of Nigerians, particularly commuters in Lagos.
“The year 2025 has been characterized by an unprecedented transparency in governance, exemplified by the Federal Government’s proactive engagement of the nation’s anti-graft agencies, the EFCC and the ICPC.
“Their audits of financial transactions and contractor performances have paved the way for timely payments and enforced accountability, thereby reinforcing adherence to contractual agreements between the Federal Government and both domestic and foreign contractors.”
Ohanaeze Ndigbo urged the Federal Government to create opportunities in 2026 for local Nigerian contractors to compete on an equitable basis with foreign counterparts.
“As we reflect on the substantial infrastructural investment of 1.5 trillion Naira, directed toward road projects in the Southeast region, we commend President Tinubu for his unparalleled benevolence,” it further stated.

Moment a shoplifter tried shooting security operatives after being caught in the act
Police took two shoplifting suspects, Shane Newman and Katerina Jeffrey, into an office at a Walmart store in Canton for questioning before a dramatic confrontation unfolded that was captured on body camera footage.
The incident occurred on Thursday, December 18, after the pair were detained on suspicion of shoplifting. According to reports cited by FOX 8, the suspects were escorted to a store security room where a police officer began questioning and searching Newman, 21.
Video from the officer’s body camera, which had been placed on a table, initially showed a calm scene. A Walmart employee handed the officer a pen and paper as the two suspects sat on a bench. Moments later, the situation escalated rapidly.
Newman suddenly turned, pulled out a firearm, and allegedly attempted to shoot the officer at point-blank range. A clicking sound was heard as he appeared to pull the trigger, while the woman shouted, “No, no, no!”
A Walmart security employee immediately lunged at Newman in an attempt to restrain him. Newman raised the gun again and appeared to pull the trigger a second time, producing another audible click. The security worker then knocked the gun from Newman’s hands as the officer drew his own weapon and shouted, “Get back! Get back!”
The officer and the security employee restrained Newman on the floor until additional officers arrived. Both suspects were taken into custody.

Nigeria Customs Seizes 20 Diverted Containers Worth ₦769.5m …As CGC Adeniyi Vows No Safe Haven for Economic Saboteurs
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted 20 diverted transit containers with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦769,533,666 across the axis of Kano/Jigawa Area Command, following intelligence-driven enforcement operations aimed at curbing cargo diversion and safeguarding government revenue.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed this development during a press briefing held in Kano on Friday, 19 December 2025.
He explained that the seizures, which occurred between the second and fourth quarters of 2025, were part of the Service’s sustained efforts to detect and dismantle organised cargo diversion networks.
According to the Comptroller-General, cargo diversion poses a serious threat to national revenue, security, and Nigeria’s credibility within the global trading system. “Cargo diversion is a grave offence that undermines government revenue, compromises national security, and damages Nigeria’s standing in international commerce. The Nigeria Customs Service will not hesitate to deploy all lawful measures to detect, deter, and punish offenders,” he stated.
The seized containers were found to contain various items, including vitrified tiles unlawfully diverted from the Kano Free Trade Zone with a DPV of ₦228.6 million, diesel engine oil, polyester materials, used clothing, printed and lace fabrics, medical consumables, and Zamzam bottled water. Some of the items are classified as prohibited imports under the Common External Tariff (CET) regulations.
The Comptroller-General further disclosed that while one container remains under detention pending the conclusion of legal processes, two containers of medical consumables were forfeited to the Federal Government following a judgment delivered by the Federal High Court, Kano Division, on 10 December 2025.
He also confirmed the arrest, prosecution, and conviction of Abdulrahman Sani Adam for the offence of container diversion. The offender was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment with an option of a ₦3 million fine, a development Adeniyi described as a strong deterrent against future violations.
To further strengthen transit cargo monitoring, the Comptroller-General announced the near-nationwide deployment of electronic container tracking devices. He noted that the system enables real-time monitoring, route compliance, and tamper alerts from ports to inland destinations.
The CGC reaffirmed its commitment to service, trade facilitation, revenue protection, and border security, warning that smugglers and their collaborators will face prosecution, forfeiture, and loss of trading privileges.
Importers, agents, and logistics operators were urged to adhere strictly to approved transit procedures and report any suspicious activities to the nearest Customs office.

Northern Youths Reject Tinubu’s Tax Laws, Cite ‘Alterations’, Claim Neglect
Northern youths are expressing strong discontent with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, specifically over allegations of altering tax laws and perceived neglect of the region.
The youths claim that the changes to tax laws were made without proper consultation, exacerbating economic hardship in the North.
This backlash is part of broader dissatisfaction with Tinubu’s policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies and naira devaluation, which have led to increased poverty and inflation.
Groups like the Northern Youth Council have criticized the administration, stating that these policies disproportionately affect the North.
The Arewa Consultative Forum has also expressed disappointment, accusing Tinubu’s government of neglect and marginalization.
Some northern leaders argue that the administration’s focus on development projects overlooks the region’s specific needs, fueling resentment among youths.
