The Federal Government has dismissed reports alleging the scrapping of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) as a prerequisite for admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, described the publication making such claims as “entirely untrue, misleading, and without official backing.”

The clarification, contained in a release signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry, made it clear that no directive or policy change had been approved or announced regarding JAMB’s statutory functions.

Dr. Alausa reaffirmed that JAMB remains the only government-recognized institution legally mandated to conduct entrance examinations and regulate admissions into tertiary institutions nationwide.

According to the Minister, “the existing admission framework administered by JAMB is still in force and fully functional.” He urged the public to disregard any unofficial information suggesting otherwise.

He further noted that the Ministry continues to work closely with JAMB and other education stakeholders to promote transparency, equity, and accountability in the admission process.

“The Ministry of Education is unwavering in its commitment to upholding merit-based admission standards and protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s higher education system,” the Minister emphasized.

The statement also admonished journalists, bloggers, and digital media operators to ensure factual accuracy by verifying reports from credible government sources before publication.

Additionally, the Ministry advised candidates, parents, and institutional heads to rely solely on the official communication channels of the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for accurate updates regarding admission procedures and education policies.

Concluding the release, the Ministry reiterated that JAMB’s role in Nigeria’s tertiary admission process remains “central, indispensable, and legally binding,” warning the public against falling prey to fake news or unauthorized information.
