FEDERAL GOVERNMENT REVOKES REGISTRATION OF NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Youth Development, has officially revoked the registration certificate of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN). The decision follows a formal notification from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) regarding serious compliance violations by the Council.
According to a statement issued by Omolara Esan, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry, the CAC’s comprehensive audit revealed multiple breaches of both the NYCN constitution and the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, specifically Sections 833 and 834. These violations, which include irregular governance practices and structural lapses, prompted the Commission to invalidate all existing claims to leadership, trusteeship, and administrative control within the organization.
The action, grounded in the powers vested in the CAC under Sections 8(1)(c) and 8(1)(d) of the CAMA 2020, comes after an exhaustive investigation into the Council’s affairs—an institution that has been plagued by an 18-year leadership crisis.
To ensure continuity and reform, the Corporate Affairs Commission has established an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to manage and oversee the operations of the Council for a one-year tenure, effective October 6, 2025.
The Ministry of Youth Development appealed to all youth bodies, affiliates, and stakeholders to extend full cooperation to the newly formed IMC as it embarks on the process of restructuring, reconciliation, and institutional restoration aimed at returning the NYCN to a path of credibility, unity, and good governance.
