FG declares May 1 public holiday to mark Workers’ Day Celebration

The Federal Government (FG) has declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Workers’ Day Celebration. Minister of Interior Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made the declaration, emphasizing the importance of peace in driving industrialization and economic growth.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo commended workers for their diligence and sacrifice, noting that their efforts are crucial to Nigeria’s greatness and global respect, even as he urged workers to adopt a culture of innovation and productivity, raising their trade standards to enhance governance and national development.

The Minister assured Nigerians of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to security and the Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at transforming the nation’s economic and governance landscape.

The public holiday aims to recognize workers’ contributions; honor the vital role Nigerian workers play in national development; foster peace and stability as preconditions for economic growth and industrialization and; reflect on labour rights and advocate for improved working conditions.

The FG reaffirms its commitment to:
protecting lives and properties; ensuring the security of citizens and foreigners and; supporting workers’ welfare, by creating an environment conducive to economic empowerment, job creation, and social stability.
