1. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour Joins ADC Coalition
On September 6, 2025, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, former Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in Lagos, formally joined the ADC coalition during an event in Lagos. His defection is viewed as a major boost to the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections, reinforcing efforts to present a unified front against the ruling APC. Rhodes-Vivour emphasized the need for opposition unity to rescue Nigeria.
2. ADC Eyes to End Tinubu’s Aegis in Lagos
On September 7, 2025, BusinessDay reported ADC’s strategic push to displace the APC in Lagos. The party is capitalizing on a growing coalition of FDP, LP, and PDP figures. ADC’s interim national secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, reiterated that the party will reserve at least 50% of elective and appointive positions for youth and women, indicating a progressive and inclusive strategy.
3. Membership Drive Launched in Ebonyi State
The Ebonyi State chapter of ADC kicked off a membership drive in Abakaliki on September 7, 2025. State chairman Dr. Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor encouraged grassroots registration to strengthen the party’s platform heading into 2027. The coalition includes former members of PDP, Labour Party, and APC, with backing from ex-governor Dr. Sam Egwu.
4. ADC Questions INEC’s PVC Pre-Registration Report
On September 1, 2025, ADC publicly questioned INEC’s first PVC pre-registration report, suggesting the reported surge in voter registration in Osun and South West was “statistically implausible” and demanded a full audit.
5. Context: Nigeria Already in 2027 Campaign Mode
Analysts note that Nigeria’s political climate has already shifted into high gear ahead of the 2027 elections. Opposition heavyweights Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi have formed an alliance under the ADC umbrella to counter perceived one-party dominance by APC. However, the Financial Times suggests this alliance has yet to offer a clear national vision or leadership structure, raising questions about its effectiveness.
