Gunmen Kill Two Policemen Escorting Ebonyi Assembly Leader in Imo Ambush
Two police officers attached to the Majority Leader of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Kingsley Ikoro, were shot dead by gunmen on Sunday in an ambush along the Okigwe axis of the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway in Imo State.
The attack occurred after a vehicle in the lawmaker’s convoy developed a mechanical fault. While the rest of the team continued the journey, the two officers stayed behind to guard the stranded vehicle. They were later ambushed and killed by unidentified gunmen.
The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Aboki Danjuma, has ordered a full-scale manhunt for the attackers. Police spokesperson Henry Okoye said tactical teams have been deployed to the area and are combing nearby bushes and communities for the suspects.
Okoye confirmed that the bodies of the officers have been evacuated to a morgue, and investigations are ongoing. He described the slain officers as gallant men who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty.
The police have called on members of the public to provide any useful information that may aid in the arrest of the perpetrators.
This incident adds to the growing wave of violent attacks on security personnel in the South-East region.
