Celebrated Ghanaian actress and film producer Juliet Ibrahim has made a deeply personal and harrowing revelation, disclosing publicly for the first time that she was repeatedly raped by a former partner during what she described as an abusive relationship marked by coercion, control, and prolonged captivity.
The actress made the shocking disclosure during an appearance on the popular talk show WithChude, hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo, in a candid conversation that has since stirred widespread reaction across social media and reignited urgent conversations about segxwal violence within intimate relationships.
Ibrahim recounted how her former partner consistently disregarded her lack of consent, forcing himself on her on multiple occasions despite her explicit objections. Each time she communicated that she was not ready for segxwal intimacy, she said, he responded with a chilling sense of entitlement.
“As long as we are in a relationship, I don’t care,” he would tell her, before proceeding to violate her — a pattern she said repeated itself throughout the course of their relationship.
In perhaps the most disturbing detail of her account, the actress revealed that her former partner went as far as confining her against her will, locking her inside his room for several days at a stretch — a revelation that points to a level of abuse extending well beyond segxwal violence into unlawful imprisonment.
Ibrahim’s courageous decision to speak openly about her ordeal has drawn an outpouring of support from fans, fellow entertainers, and women’s rights advocates, many of whom have praised her bravery in breaking her silence. Her testimony has also renewed calls for stronger legal protections for survivors of intimate partner segxwal violence across Ghana and the wider African continent.
