Hon Success Opara has stated that the recent attack on Peter Obi in Edo State was perpetrated by non-state actors, rather than the state government. The incident occurred when gunmen opened fire on Obi’s convoy at the residence of former APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, in Benin City, Edo State.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers, who arrived in Sienna buses, shot at the gate and destroyed several vehicles, prompting concerns about the safety of political actors in the state. Obi, who was at the scene, escaped unharmed, but several people were injured.

The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the incident, stating that personnel responded swiftly to the distress call and forced the attackers to flee. The police are investigating the incident, but no arrests have been made so far.

The attack has sparked widespread condemnation, with opposition figures calling for increased security measures to protect citizens.
