Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has been accused of demolishing the Free Mother and Child Hospital in Owerri, built by former Governor Rochas Okorocha.

According to Ekwutosblog, the hospital was constructed in memory of Somtochukwu, a 12-year-old boy who was killed during the demolition of Ekeukwu Owerri Market in August 2017.

The demolition was allegedly carried out to pave the way for the return of the ancestral Ekeukwu Owerri Market, a promise made by Governor Uzodinma during his 2019 campaign.

The hospital’s destruction has sparked controversy, with many viewing it as a politically motivated act of vendetta against Okorocha’s legacy projects.

Former Governor Okorocha has appealed to Uzodinma to stop destroying his legacy projects, urging him to focus on his own initiatives.

The demolition has raised concerns about the fate of other projects built by previous administrations in Imo State.

Uzodinma’s administration has defended the action, stating it was part of his campaign promises to restore the market.

Uzodinma’s administration has implemented various projects, including:

Providing medical care for children, pregnant women, and the elderly.

Renovating major roads, bridges, and public infrastructure.

Rehabilitating schools and improving learning outcomes.

Supporting farmers with loans and seedlings to boost economic growth.
