How My Father Influenced My Annual Orphanage Donations – Singer Davido

Published

Ekwutosblog has gathered that Grammy-nominated singer Davido has shared how his father’s advice inspired him to donate to orphanages annually.

Speaking on The Morning Hustle podcast, Davido recalled how his fans sent him close to $400,000 after he tweeted his account number on his birthday in 2021.

According to him, his father advised him against keeping the money, prompting him to donate the entire amount to a motherless babies’ home.

This act of kindness sparked an annual tradition, with Davido using his own money to support orphanages in subsequent years.

He said: “I tweeted my account number randomly on Twitter on my birthday, and my fans ended up sending me close to $400,000. I was thinking about what to do with it.

“My dad called me and said, ‘You know you can’t keep that money, right?’ I was like, ‘What? What do you mean I can’t keep my money? It’s my money.

“I gave it all away to the motherless babies’ homes. We did that the first and second years, back to back. The first year, it was the donations, the next year I used my own money. I also used my money this year.

“It’s something we’ve been doing every year with the foundation, and we hope for it to get bigger. There are about 500 orphanages. I met people who told me they were beneficiaries. Imagine all those people praying for you.”

Davido’s foundation has donated millions to orphanages across Nigeria, with reports indicating that he donated N251 million to 292 orphanages in 2021, N237 million to over 400 orphanages in 2023, and N300 million in both February and November 2024.

Davido expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to make a positive impact.
