Former Rivers State Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has opened up about his strained relationship with his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, accusing him of political betrayal and a lack of strategic wisdom.

Speaking during a media chat with journalists, Wike expressed frustration over how Fubara has handled their conflict, particularly in dealing with the fallout of legal battles. He criticized the governor’s decision to rely on formal letters instead of direct dialogue to resolve issues.

“You have had a frosty relationship with an arm of government. If you are a good politician, is it that you will go and write a letter?” Wike questioned.

“Hold on. If you are a good politician, you have had a frosty relationship with me. I have never sat down with you, I have never spoken with you. You seized my salary, you seized my allowances guaranteed by law. You took it. No problem.”

Wike further narrated how the legal battle between them escalated from the Court of Appeal to the Supreme Court.

Despite winning at the appellate level, he insisted he still sought peace. However, he accused Fubara of mishandling the Supreme Court’s judgment.

“Now, you went to the Court of Appeal. It didn’t even occur to you, ‘Even though I won in the Court of Appeal, I still want peace.’ The matter went to the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court gave judgment.

The next thing you will do is to say you want to implement the Supreme Court judgment. Is it by writing a letter? And who signed the letter?” he asked.

Wike’s remarks highlight the deepening rift between him and Fubara, raising concerns over governance and political stability in Rivers State.
