Nicholas Ukachukwu the APC governorship candidate in the November 8 Anambra Governorship election has raised alarm of planned vote-buying, urges security action

Nicholas Ukachukwu has accused unnamed individuals of preparing to distribute money to influence votes in favour of APGA and called on security agencies to act before any payments are made. In a video at the political parties stakeholders meeting hosted by INEC Ukachukwu said those behind the alleged vote buying, whom he claims to know, would be handed over to security agents so the funds can be recovered.

“You can’t wait until there is a problem before you start contending with it. I know people that will share money in APGA, I will give their names to the security agents, let them be arrested and the money will be recovered,” he said, adding that authorities should move quickly rather than wait for an “innocent person” to be targeted. He also warned that the “major money” earmarked for vote-buying already has known locations and times for distribution.

Ukachukwu stressed that electoral malpractice is not limited to ballot theft, saying: “Rigging of election is not only when somebody snatches ballot box or papers; if anyone buys vote it’s also rigging.” He urged prompt investigation and preventive action by security agencies.
