The Police Commands in Imo and Plateau States have jointly reinforced a comprehensive prohibition on the sale, distribution, and use of fireworks, knockouts, and all forms of pyrotechnics as the yuletide season approaches. The enforcement measure, authorities say, is a proactive step to curb injuries, prevent fire outbreaks, and reduce public disturbances commonly associated with festive explosives.
In a statement released on Sunday, November 23, and signed by the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, the Command stressed that the ban remains fully in effect across the state. The police emphasized that this directive is essential to safeguarding communities during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, urging residents to comply strictly.
The statement warned that any individual found selling, possessing, transporting, or detonating fireworks—whether in homes, streets, public gatherings, or community events—will be promptly apprehended and prosecuted. To ensure thorough enforcement, the police disclosed that routine patrols and special operations will be intensified throughout the festive period.
Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, called on Imo residents to support the security effort by providing useful information on illegal activities relating to fireworks. He expressed appreciation for the public’s cooperation in promoting peace and maintaining a secure environment as the holiday season draws near.
The Plateau State Police Command has issued a similar advisory, reinforcing a unified stance by security agencies to protect lives and property during the celebrations.
