Residents of Owerri Municipal Council showcased a high level of appreciation towards the relentless and much needed administrative support of Imo State Governor, Dist. Sen. Hope Uzodinma, as they received palliatives of from the Governor. The palliatives which includes corn , garri and other edible grains elucidated the dynamic steps of Governor Hope’s administration in curbing and containing food scarcity amongst the populace. The event which took place at the Municipal Council Headquarters, had Imo APC Chairman, Hon. MacDonald Ebere, PhD, oversee the entire sharing process.

In his remarks, Hon. Ebere appreciated Governor Uzodimma’s intervention in bringing palliatives to the homes of Imolites. He highlighted Governor Hope’s commitment to ensuring that no citizen is left hungry in the present but temporary economic crunch in the Country. “Governor Uzodinma’s administration is determined to cushion the effects of economic hardships on our people. This distribution is a clear indication of his proactive leadership and empathy for the masses,” Hon. Ebere stated.

Hon. MacDonald also emphasized the importance of transparent and equitable distribution of the palliatives. “We must ensure that these resources reach the intended beneficiaries. I urge all Ward Chairmen of the various parties present to adopt a fair and transparent method of sharing so that everyone can benefit from this generous gesture,” he added. He further noted that this palliative initiative is part of a larger strategy by the State Government to address food insecurity and improve the living standards of the people.

Additionally, Hon. Ebere commended Governor Uzodimma’s foresight in addressing the immediate needs of the citizens while also planning for long-term solutions. “Governor Uzodinma’s approach is not just about immediate relief but also about sustainable development. His administration is working on various initiatives that will provide lasting benefits to our communities,” he said.

Hon. Ebere took the opportunity to praise the unity and cooperation between the indigenes and non-indigenes in the municipality, which has made distributions of Government palliatives seamless. “The success of this initiative is a testament to the strong collaboration and commitment within our Municipality. Together, we are making significant strides towards a united Owerri Municipal Council, and a better Imo State,” he remarked. He also acknowledged the efforts of local government officials and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth distribution of the palliatives.

He concluded by reiterating the Governor’s dedication to the well-being of all Imolites. “Governor Uzodinma’s leadership is characterized by his unwavering commitment to the people. We will continue to support his vision and work towards the collective progress of our state,” Dr. Ebere affirmed.

Owerri Municipal APC Chairman, Hon. Onyekachi Ibezim, praised Governor Uzodimma’s dedication to the welfare and growth of the state, acknowledging his efforts to meet the wants and needs of the people of Owerri Municipal and Imolites at large. “Governor Uzodinma has consistently demonstrated that he is a leader who listens and acts on the concerns of his people. We are immensely grateful for his unwavering support,” Hon. Ibezim declared.

Hon. Engr. Chidiebere Emeribe, the Sole Administrator of Owerri Municipal Council, also commended Governor Hope’s initiative. In his remarks, he described Governor Uzodinma as a person of outstanding reputation, embodying the qualities of an astute leader. “The Governor’s consciousness is deeply intertwined with the needs and aspirations of his people. This act of distributing palliatives is a testament to his compassionate leadership,” Engr. Emeribe noted. He also urged the Ward Chairmen of the various parties in the municipality to ensure that the distribution is inclusive, stating, “An injury to one is an injury to all. Let us ensure that everyone partakes in this gracious act.”

The event was marked by a palpable sense of hope and unity among the residents of Owerri Municipal Council, who expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the Governor’s palliative measures. As the distribution commenced, it was clear that the efforts of the Uzodinma administration were making a tangible difference in the lives of the people.

BREAKING: Police take over PDP Secretariat in Abuja

As tension continues to mount over the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting, which is expected to hold on Monday, armed policemen have taken over its secretariat.

According to an official of the party who spoke to newsmen, the police were deployed to stop the proposed NEC Expanded Caucus Meeting.

Though some staff members of the party were initially allowed to go into the premises of the secretariat without any resistance from the police, they were later sent out.

At the time of filing this report, journalists were also asked to leave the premises of the secretariat, while some policemen were seen cordoning off Dalaba Street, which is the road leading to Wadata Plaza.

Police arrest suspected cultist during meeting, recover firearm in Ogun

Operatives from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, Ogun State Police Command, have arrested a suspected member of the Eiye Confraternity, Ismail Afolabi, at Saje Area of Car Wash, Abeokuta.

The suspect was arrested following credible intelligence received by the police that members of the Eiye Confraternity were holding a secret meeting with the intention to carry out criminal activities.

The police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirming the arrest to DAILY POST on Sunday, said the suspect was apprehended while attempting to flee.

Odutola stated that he was found in possession of a cross bag containing a loaded cut-to-size double-barrel shotgun and live ammunition.

She said, “On Friday, June 27, 2025, at about 05:30 pm , the Ogun State Police Command received credible intelligence that members of the Eiye Confraternity were holding a clandestine meeting with suspected criminal intent at the Saje Area of Car Wash, Abeokuta.

“Operatives from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit swiftly mobilized to the scene. On arrival, one suspect, Ismail Afolabi ‘m’, was found in possession of a cross-body bag containing a cut-to-size double-barrel shotgun loaded with live ammunition.”

The spokesperson noted that preliminary investigations have commenced, and efforts are ongoing to track down other accomplices.

The Command restated its commitment to eradicating cult-related violence and maintaining peace and order in the state.

Suspected gunmen kidnap man in Benue

Gunmen have kidnapped a middle-aged man, Ortese Tarlumun Joseph, in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, after shooting at his family during an attempted escape.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama revealed the incident in a post on X on Sunday.

He said the abduction happened on Friday, June 27, around 6:00 p.m. near Tomanyiin Main Village in Nzorov district.

Sources told Makama that Ortese was returning from the farm with his wife and son when two armed men came out of the bush and ordered them to lie down.

“Out of fear, the family tried to run, and the gunmen fired two gunshots.

“Mrs. Ortese said she later heard her husband calling for help but could not find him. It was later discovered that the attackers had taken him away,” Makama wrote

The family’s Toyota Corolla was found at the scene.

Security personnel launched a search operation shortly after the incident, but neither the kidnappers nor the victim had been found at the time of reporting.
