IMO ASSEMBLY ORGANIZES ORIENTATION SEMINAR FOR NEWLY RECRUITED STAFF.

The Imo State House of Assembly, on Friday, 31st October 2025, successfully conducted a one-day orientation seminar for its newly recruited staff members. The session was designed to integrate the fresh employees into the legislative environment by acquainting them with the standards, ethics, and responsibilities expected within the Assembly and the public service at large.

In her opening address, the Clerk and Head of Legislative Service, Chinelo Adaora Emeghara Esq., expressed deep appreciation to the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe, for his approval and support in hosting the seminar. She described the exercise as a clear demonstration of the Assembly’s commitment to building an effective and knowledgeable workforce. She encouraged the participants to pay close attention and seize the opportunity to learn and grow in their new roles.

The event featured seasoned professionals as resource persons, including Chief Chima Nmeregini, a retired Permanent Secretary and former Commissioner and member of the Civil Service Commission, alongside Mrs. Ngozi Ejiaku, Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Office of the Head of Service. Their presentations covered the structure of the public service, professional ethics, expected conduct, and the essential values of diligence, discipline, and integrity. Their lectures were followed by interactive sessions where participants asked questions and received practical guidance.

Leaders of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Imo Assembly Chapter, Comr. Chukwuma Anya, and PASAN representative from the Imo Assembly Service Commission, Comr. Chinwe Osuagwu, also addressed the new staff. They praised the Assembly management for its forward-thinking approach and applauded Chinelo Adaora Emeghara Esq. for her reform-driven leadership within the House of Assembly. The new staff were advised to uphold professionalism, remain humble, learn from their superiors, and commit themselves to service.

Delivering a vote of thanks on behalf of the newly employed staff, Iwuchukwu MacDonald Arinze Esq. from the Legal Department expressed appreciation to the Clerk and the management team for organizing such a valuable orientation. He encouraged his colleagues to implement the knowledge and ethical principles gained during the seminar in their daily duties.

The seminar proceedings were expertly coordinated by Mrs. Ngozi Ononiwu (JP), Head of the Administration Department, whose attention to detail ensured the event flowed smoothly. Her role as moderator contributed significantly to the success and orderliness of the programme.

Several high-ranking officials and senior staff were present at the event, including Mrs. Comfort Eneregbu, Secretary of the Imo State House of Assembly Service Commission; Deputy Clerk (Legislative), Mrs. Anne Martins; Director of Accounts, Mr. Humphrey Igiri; Director of Planning, Dr. Felix Ugoh; Dr. Emeka Nwadilibe from the Medical Department; Mrs. Happiness Oguike, Head of Publications; Ijeoma Adinnu Esq., Head of Legal Department; and Mrs. Eucharia Merem, Head of Information Department, among others.

The orientation was described by participants and organizers as impactful and timely, equipping the new staff with a clear understanding of their roles within the legislative system. It also reflected the growing efforts of the Assembly to enhance institutional standards, strengthen professionalism, and foster a well-informed workforce.

By prioritizing capacity building, the Imo State House of Assembly continues to demonstrate its readiness to improve administrative efficiency and service delivery. The event signals a renewed commitment to excellence, aligning with the broader vision of a progressive and well-structured Imo State.
