In another decisive move to strengthen urban security and reclaim public spaces from criminal occupation, the Imo State Government has completed the demolition of notorious hideouts situated around the Control–Assumpta Flyover in Owerri. The operation marks the final phase of a comprehensive security cleanup aimed at eradicating crime within the state capital.
The enforcement exercise was spearheaded by the Governor’s Office on Monitoring and Compliance, under the supervision of Nze Chinasa Nwaneri, in synergy with Imo ENTRACO and various security formations. Several arrests were made during the raid, and assorted arms and dangerous weapons were recovered from the demolished premises.
Reports revealed that the structures in question had become breeding grounds for prostitution, narcotic trade, armed robbery, and other violent crimes. For years, these illicit activities had threatened the peace and safety of residents within the metropolis.
Addressing the press shortly after the operation, Nze Nwaneri reiterated the administration’s zero-tolerance stance on crime and environmental disorder, stressing that Governor Hope Uzodimma had directed that all criminal enclaves across the capital be dismantled. He emphasized that the cleanup aligns with the government’s broader mission to promote a safer, more organized, and aesthetically appealing Owerri.
Residents of the area commended the government’s bold intervention, noting that the move has restored confidence and a sense of safety to the community.
The state government further assured that similar actions will be replicated across all black spots within the metropolis until every identified criminal zone is eliminated and law-abiding citizens can thrive without fear.
