The Imo State House of Assembly has urged Governor Hope Uzodimma to convene a large-scale business summit aimed at projecting the state’s economic strengths and attracting both local and international investors.

The call was made during Thursday’s plenary session in Owerri after a motion sponsored by Hon. Kingsley Ozurumba (APC–Isu) and seconded by the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Samuel Osuji (APC–Isiala Mbano).

Presenting the motion, Ozurumba commended the governor’s efforts in creating a conducive environment for business growth through strategic infrastructure projects and supportive policies. He highlighted the administration’s achievements in road construction, healthcare, education, agriculture, energy, and security, noting that these investments have stirred interest from investors but are yet to generate a proportionate level of economic inflows.

He stressed that an investment summit would serve as a platform to introduce Imo’s vast opportunities to industry leaders, policymakers, and entrepreneurs across Nigeria and beyond. According to him, the summit would also showcase the state’s comparative advantages in key sectors while strengthening partnerships with the Imo State Investment Promotion Agency.

Supporting the motion, the Majority Leader, Hon. Kanayo Onyemaechi (Owerri-West), said Imo’s economy has recorded significant improvements that deserve to be marketed to the wider business community. Hon. Kennedy Ibeh (APC–Obowo) described the executive’s achievements as a product of strong legislative-executive collaboration, pointing to world-class road networks and hospitality facilities now available in the state.

In his contribution, Hon. Ozioma Ebonine (APC–Njaba) assured that security in Imo has greatly improved, making the state safe for investors.

After deliberations, Speaker Chike Olemgbe (Ihitte Uboma) put the motion to vote, and it was overwhelmingly adopted. He directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the resolution to the concerned ministries, particularly those overseeing trade, investment, industry, finance, digital economy, and natural resources, for immediate action.

The proposed summit, if convened, is expected to spotlight Imo State as an emerging investment hub with vast opportunities for sustainable economic growth.
