The Imo State Police Command has announced that five men will soon be arraigned for their involvement in the violent assault of a 55-year-old woman, Mrs. Ndidiamaka Agu, in Uboegbelu, Emekuku, Owerri North Local Government Area.
The development was confirmed in Owerri by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, who stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, had earlier ordered a full-scale investigation after a disturbing video of the assault went viral on November 3, 2025.
Following the Commissioner’s directive, operatives of the X-Squad Unit swiftly swung into action and successfully apprehended five out of the six suspects seen in the footage. The suspects were identified as:
Onyekachi Njoku, 40
Chiazor Osuji, 45
Chukwuma Iwuala, 46
Eugene Njoku
Njoku Emmanuel, 35
All five are residents of Uboegbelu, Emekuku. The sixth suspect, Onyedikachi Njoku, remains at large, as police intensify efforts to track him down.
The viral video, which sparked widespread condemnation, showed the men repeatedly attacking Mrs. Agu while another woman pleaded with them to stop. The attackers were also captured attempting to assault the woman recording the incident and forcefully trying to break into her house.
DSP Okoye revealed that all arrested suspects have provided confessional statements admitting their involvement in the assault. He added that the suspects will be charged to court in line with the criminal offences established during the investigation.
CP Danjuma strongly condemned the attack, describing it as barbaric and unacceptable. He further warned that the police will not tolerate attempts to intimidate or harm citizens who cooperate with law enforcement during investigations.
According to a source familiar with the case, Mrs. Agu was targeted after assisting the police in an earlier investigation involving the same group of men. The assault, which left her severely injured, has been widely condemned by the public.
The Imo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and bringing all perpetrators, including the fugitive suspect, to book.
