The Imo State Internal Revenue Service (IIRS) has officially announced the full digitalization of its revenue collection system, marking a new era of transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public finance management across the state.
This major breakthrough was disclosed by the Executive Chairman of the IIRS, Justice Okoye, during a strategic stakeholders’ engagement held in Owerri. The meeting brought together heads of major state revenue-generating bodies, including the Environmental Transformation Commission (ENTRACO), Imo Signage and Advertisement Agency (IMSAA), Imo Housing Corporation (IHC), and the Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA). Also present was the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, Prince Eze Ugochukwu.
Okoye explained that the automation drive aligns with Governor Hope Uzodimma’s vision of a technologically driven revenue system designed to curb leakages and enhance efficiency. He confirmed that all revenue notices are now issued electronically, ensuring faster processing and improved service delivery to taxpayers.
> “Imo State Internal Revenue Service operations are now fully automated, and all notices are generated electronically. This digital leap has significantly boosted the state’s revenue performance,” Okoye stated.
The IIRS Chairman noted that the reform aims not only to simplify tax administration but also to foster collaboration among all revenue-generating agencies in the state. He emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue to identify challenges, harmonize efforts, and sustain growth in the state’s internally generated revenue (IGR).
According to him, the automation initiative reflects Governor Uzodimma’s commitment to establishing a modern, accountable, and technology-driven revenue framework in line with global standards.
Heads of partner agencies at the meeting commended the IIRS for spearheading the digital transformation and pledged their full cooperation. They also highlighted challenges such as limited logistics and technical equipment, appealing to the state government for additional support to ensure full adoption of the automation process across all sectors.
In conclusion, the IIRS reaffirmed its resolve to strengthen the state’s revenue base through innovation, inter-agency synergy, and the deployment of cutting-edge digital tools — a bold move that positions Imo State among the leading digitally compliant subnational governments in Nigeria.
