The Imo State Government has issued a stern directive prohibiting all forms of commercial activities, loitering, and unauthorized use of the Control Post Flyover in Owerri. The government emphasized that the flyover was constructed solely for vehicular traffic and must be preserved for its intended purpose.

In a Special Announcement released by the Ministry of Works and Infrastructural Development, residents, road users, traders, and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) were specifically warned to desist from turning the flyover into a hub for loading and offloading passengers. The government further outlawed hawking and trading of any kind within and around the area.

The announcement also cautioned individuals without legitimate business to stay away from the flyover precincts both during the day and at night, stressing that loiterers would be apprehended and prosecuted according to law.

Authorities described the decision as part of ongoing efforts to maintain the safety, efficiency, and aesthetic appeal of the state’s transport infrastructure. The government noted that the Control Post Flyover is a strategic project designed to ease traffic congestion, and therefore must not be compromised by activities that obstruct its use.

The Ministry of Works confirmed that enforcement would be carried out in collaboration with security agencies and relevant stakeholders, adding that violators would face severe penalties. It stressed that decisive action would be taken against any individual or group attempting to flout the order.

According to the government, the regulation is not only aimed at maintaining traffic order but also at protecting the integrity of public infrastructure. It assured residents that strict monitoring would continue, and urged transport operators, traders, and the public to comply with the directives.

The state government appealed for public cooperation, noting that compliance with the new rules would guarantee safety, improve traffic flow, and contribute to the overall beautification of the state capital.
