Widespread excitement filled the air in Imo State on Friday, October 3, 2025, as state civil servants began receiving credit alerts reflecting the newly approved ₦104,000 minimum wage. The development sparked jubilation across ministries, agencies, and parastatals, signaling yet another fulfillment of Governor Hope Uzodimma’s promise to prioritize workers’ welfare.
The Imo State Governor had in September announced the new wage structure — a historic move that positioned Imo as the first and highest-paying state in Nigeria. True to his word, Governor Uzodimma ensured that implementation began without delay, reflecting his leadership philosophy of action over rhetoric.
In addition to the general wage increase, the Governor approved new salary scales for professionals in the medical and educational sectors. Medical doctors in the state will now earn an entry-level salary of ₦513,000, while university lecturers’ starting pay has been raised to ₦220,000 — an adjustment aimed at enhancing motivation and reducing brain drain.
This groundbreaking wage reform reflects Governor Uzodimma’s deep commitment to building a productive, prosperous, and equitable Imo State where diligence and service are handsomely rewarded.
