A Nigerian cleric has sparked controversy by suggesting that a single mother’s daughter became a lesbian due to the absence of her father. The cleric’s comments have been met with widespread criticism and debate.

According to Ekwutosblog, the cleric stated that the absence of the father figure led to the daughter’s sexual orientation, implying a causal link between the two. This perspective has been disputed by many, who argue that a person’s sexual orientation is not determined by their family dynamics or parental influence.

The Catholic Church in Nigeria has emphasized that individuals with same-sex attraction should be treated with love and respect, rather than discrimination or judgment. Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama of Jos stated, “We don’t throw away the persons. We embrace them in love”.

The issue of LGBTQ+ rights and acceptance remains a contentious topic in Nigeria, with many advocating for greater understanding and inclusivity.
