JAMB’s integrity must not be compromised by technical lapses, human errors – Kalu

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ben Kalu has said that the integrity of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) must not be compromised by technical lapses or human error.

He stressed that the technical glitch experienced by JAMB was not a failure on the part of the candidates, nor a deliberate act of sabotage but a preventable human error within the system.

Kalu stated this on Sunday in Abuja while addressing a press conference on the 2025 JAMB Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Technical Crisis.

He stressed that the events surrounding the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) have shaken public confidence in one of the nation’s most critical gateways to opportunity.

The Deputy Speaker emphasised that the mass outcry that followed the release of this year’s results, and the subsequent technical review, demands not only transparency but decisive action to restore faith in the educational system.

While commending the swift apology of the Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, Kalu noted that it did not erase the trauma, disruption and uncertainty experienced by the young people and their families.

“To the affected candidates: your frustration is valid, and your voices have been heard. The integrity of our national examinations must never be compromised by technical lapses or human error,” Kalu said.

Against this background, Kalu called on JAMB to commission an independent, transparent audit of its entire examination infrastructure.

This audit, Kalu said, should involve external professionals, system engineers, and academic measurement experts to scrutinise every aspect of the Computer Based Test (CBT) engine, question delivery, answer validation, and result collation processes.

He noted that the examination body must also implement stronger deployment validation protocols and real-time monitoring mechanisms to prevent recurrence.

Northwest University: Suspend foreign scholarships – APC’s Dankano tells Kano govt

A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, Auwal Dankano, has called on the state government to suspend all overseas scholarship programs and use the money to fund local universities instead.

He made the statement while reacting to the recent increase in registration fees at Northwest University, where the charges rose from ₦19,000 to almost ₦53,000.

Dankano said the increase may be due to financial problems faced by the university.

He stressed that it goes against Kano State’s policy on free and accessible education.

“Yes, we are all aware that the management unofficially complained about shortage of funds to run the varsity, hence they decided to make the increase,” he said.

“To say the fact, the school authority has a valid reason to increase the fees. But this is not in line with the Kano State policy on education.”

He advised the government to look for other ways to support universities rather than putting the burden on students and their families.

“In my view, the government should reverse the increase and create an avenue where the deficit should be funded elsewhere,” Dankano suggested.

He urged the government to suspend overseas scholarships and use those funds to support Northwest University and Sa’adatu Rimi University of Education.

“Yes, the government should suspend overseas scholarship and channel the money to the two universities in the state,” he said.

According to him, each of the two institutions has an estimated 10,000 students from Kano, and the government would need about ₦1.5 billion every year to cover their financial needs.

“Based on assumptions, the average 10,000 Kano indigenes in each of the two state-owned universities, the state government needs to pay about ₦1.5 billion annually. That will fill in the gap, and make education for all,” Dankano said.

90% of JAMB Score
10% of WAEC Result
90% from your JAMB Score + 10% from your O’level result =Aggregate Score

The aggregate is what is compared with your departmental cut-off mark

UNN WAEC GRADE KEY
A1 = 90
B2 = 80
B3 = 70
C4 = 60
C5 = 50
C6 = 40
D7 – F9 = 0
And additional 40 marks for those with only one sitting.

Let’s make a scenario:
Ada is a Business Management aspirant who scored 250 in her recent JAMB EXAM
And her core four subject from her WAEC results is as follow:

English B3 = 70
Mathematics B2 = 80
Economics B2 = 80
Commerce A1 = 90
She used only one O’level result = 40

From Ada’s:
• WAEC: 70 + 80 + 80 + 90 + 40= 360
• JAMB: 250

10% of 360 = 36
90% of 250 = 225
• Total Aggregate = 225 + 36 = 261

• The UNN Business Management cut- off mark is around 213

261 is far above 213, ADA is likely to get Admission this year!!!

N.B: This is based on last year because they didn’t write post-utme last year.

JAMB registrar, Oloyede supervises TETFund promotion exams

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, has monitored the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) staff promotion examination.

A statement released by JAMB spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, said Oloyede expressed gratitude to TETFund and other agencies for their confidence in the examination body.

The statement said, “During the examination, Prof. Oloyede expressed his gratitude to TETFund, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), and other agencies for their continued confidence in JAMB’s credibility and their ongoing collaboration with the Board.

“Commending TETFund for its proactive decision to engage JAMB, Prof. Oloyede affirmed that the Board is committed to providing exceptional examination services to those who value integrity and trust in the examination process.

“Although the Board faced difficulties this year, looking back on the challenges faced by the Board this year, Prof. Oloyede emphasized that while he accepts responsibility for the events that transpired, this does not excuse any stakeholder, including Board staff, from neglecting their duties.”

Oloyede also assured that the Board would take appropriate action against any dereliction of duty.

He highlighted his commitment to exploring innovative examinations and expressed gratitude that the examination was conducted without any difficulty as there were no reports indicating leakage or any other issues.
