Former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has denied making any comments regarding political realignment in the country.

He stated this in a post on X on Saturday.

According to him, he did not make any such remarks related to the ongoing political developments.

“My attention has been drawn to a statement purportedly stating my position on the recurring political realignments in Nigeria.”

“I wish to categorically state that such statements are false, unfounded, and products of political mischief.”

“I have refrained from commenting on contemporary political events, and I will continue to do so for the time being.”

“In this regard, I urge the public to only engage with statements that come from my public handles and other official sources.”

Earlier, media reports quoted Kwankwaso as stating that President Tinubu personally reached out to him multiple times, offering assurances and favourable conditions to rejoin the ruling party.

He was however, said, to have firmly declined the overtures, citing deep-rooted principles and concerns.

His comments also come after he was quoted as labelling defectors to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as betrayers of trust.

The remarks were attributed to him following the defection of Senator Abdulrahman Kawu, who represents the Kano South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, to the APC, along with several other federal lawmakers from Kano State.

In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Abbas Adam Abbas, it was noted that the move followed wide-ranging consultations with stakeholders, supporters, and constituents within the district.

More recently, SaharaReporters reported the defection of Kabiru Alhassan Rurum (NNPP), representing Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya Federal Constituency in Kano State, and Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Rogo (NNPP), representing Karaye/Rogo Federal Constituency in Kano State, to the APC.

Rurum, a former Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly and one-time governorship aspirant, said his decision to join the APC was in the best interest of his people.

In a show of support, the APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, was present in the Chamber to witness the defections.
Ganduje, the immediate past governor of Kano State, was accompanied by the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, and other party chieftains from Kano.
