Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu Sued For N11bn In School Demolition Case

Published

on

A Lagos-based educationist, Paulin Eboagwu, and her husband, Daniel Eboagwu, have initiated an N11bn lawsuit against Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and six others, following the alleged demolition of their school property in Ilasan, Lekki.

The case, registered as No LD/15612LMW/2024, was filed on July 16, 2024, at the Lagos State High Court.

Represented by their lawyer, Babatunde Ademoyo, the plaintiffs contend that their land, as outlined in Survey Plan No.KCO/902/006B (613/2018/LA) with gubernatorial consent, was unlawfully demolished.

They accuse several parties, including the Attorney General of Lagos State, the General Manager of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, and the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.

In their suit, the Eboagwus seek a court declaration affirming their ownership of the 1,580-square-meter property and labeling the demolition as illegal.

They are requesting N1bn in general damages for emotional distress and an additional N10bn in special damages for the losses incurred. They also demand a public apology from the defendants and a perpetual injunction preventing further interference with their property.

When contacted, Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotoso, stated he was unaware of any lawsuit against the governor.
