In a landmark declaration aimed at sanitizing land administration and enhancing transparency in governance, the Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, has announced the complete end of land racketeering and the use of fake land documents across the state.
The Governor made this pronouncement on Saturday in Owerri during the graduation ceremony of 10,000 beneficiaries of Cohort 3 of the Skill-Up Imo Project, a flagship empowerment initiative designed to build a digitally literate workforce and position Imo at the heart of Nigeria’s emerging tech economy.
Governor Uzodimma emphasized that the measure is part of his administration’s broader vision to reconstruct, rehabilitate, and recover the state, not only through physical infrastructure but also by investing in the intellectual and technological empowerment of the people.
> “From the inception of my administration, I made it clear that our goal goes beyond roads and buildings. We are determined to equip our people—especially the youth—with the tools, knowledge, and digital access they need to compete globally,” the Governor stated.
He explained that the newly introduced digital land application system would eliminate the need for intermediaries and ensure a transparent interface between citizens and the government.
> “With this app, you can now verify land ownership, process documentation, pay taxes, and monitor applications directly from your mobile phones or laptops—without stress, delay, or manipulation,” he added.
The Governor assured that this innovation would effectively put an end to fraudulent land dealings, fake property titles, and the illegal acquisition of government lands, marking a new dawn for accountability and efficiency in land management.
He further noted that banks and financial institutions can now easily verify land ownership through the platform before granting loans, thereby strengthening investor confidence and promoting ease of doing business in the state.
Governor Uzodimma reiterated that his administration remains focused on driving a digital revolution that connects governance to innovation, transparency, and youth empowerment, making Imo State a trailblazer in Nigeria’s 21st-century digital economy.
