Matawalle: Security not one man show – GON tells Nigerians

Published

on

The sociocultural group, Guardians of One Nigeria (GON)have said that security is not a one-man show, warning political actors to desist from spreading falsehoods aimed at destabilising the country’s leadership and security apparatus.

The group was reacting to online rumors suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had dismissed Matawalle alongside the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, and Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu.

In a statement signed by its President, Arch. Darius Ishakwu, and Secretary General, Chief Nurudeen Isiaka, the group asserted that no amount of propaganda or politically-motivated misinformation would derail the president’s commitment to securing the country.

“This kind of fake news, allegedly quoting the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, is not only baseless but dangerous,” the statement read.

“Whoever is behind this must understand that security is too delicate an issue to be used as a political weapon.”

GON, which comprises retired military personnel, paramilitary officers, and professionals engaged in community security initiatives, credited Matawalle with revitalizing Nigeria’s security efforts within a short time in office.

“If Defence Ministers under previous administrations had shown even half of Matawalle’s dedication, Nigeria’s security challenges would not have reached this point,” GON stated.

“Just as the fake news was trending, Matawalle and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Chris Musa, were on the ground in Borno State, interacting directly with troops at the warfront and assessing the situation firsthand.”

The group emphasized that fighting insurgency and terrorism is not a show for social media nor a matter for political point-scoring. Instead, it called on all Nigerians to contribute meaningfully through community policing, intelligence sharing, and support for frontline personnel.

“Security is not a one-man show, and it is certainly not the sole responsibility of government,” the statement added. “This is a national responsibility. If you cannot help, at least don’t distract those who are doing the work.”
