Minister Nnaji Debunks Allegations on Academic Credentials
The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, has refuted reports questioning the authenticity of his academic qualifications, describing them as baseless and politically motivated.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Dr. Robert Ngwu, the Minister affirmed that he legitimately earned a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology and Biochemistry from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), in July 1985, graduating with Second Class Honours, Lower Division.
Nnaji dismissed the recent media publications alleging that he did not graduate from the institution, insisting that official UNN records validate his claims. He attributed the controversy to political interests within the university, noting that the issue only emerged after opposition-linked individuals assumed key administrative roles.
He further disclosed that the Federal High Court in Abuja had granted an order restraining the university from tampering with his academic records and directing it to release his transcript.
Reassuring Nigerians of his commitment to national progress, Nnaji maintained that no form of “political blackmail or sponsored media attack” would derail his focus on promoting innovation, science, and technology in the country.
The Minister also appealed to the University of Nigeria to uphold its founding principles and resist being used as a tool for partisan agendas, reminding the institution of its enduring motto — “To restore the dignity of man.”
