The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued a teenage domestic worker who was severely injured after her employer allegedly poured hot water on her in Gwarinpa, Abuja.
The 16-year-old victim, who hails from a large family in Imo State, was employed to look after her employer’s three children—two-month-old twins and a seven-year-old boy. Reports indicate that she sustained serious burns during the assault.
Concerned neighbours, who witnessed the attack, immediately rushed the girl to the hospital and alerted NAPTIP, which triggered a swift intervention.
In an official statement, the agency condemned the inhumane treatment and assured the public that it has launched a thorough investigation into the incident. NAPTIP vowed that everyone responsible for the cruel act will be brought to justice.
The agency further commended the vigilance of the neighbours whose timely action saved the victim from further harm, while urging the public to always speak up against abuse and exploitation.
Members of the public are reminded to report any suspected case of child abuse or trafficking by contacting NAPTIP on 07030000203 or the short code 627.
Together, the agency stressed, Nigerians can stand against abuse and protect the most vulnerable in society.
