The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has extended relief support to families and individuals who were affected by the recent communal unrest between Awoma and Umuobi communities in Ohaji Federal Constituency of Imo State.

The distribution exercise, which took place on Friday, September 26, 2025, was organized by the Owerri Operations Office of NEMA and spearheaded by its Head of Operations, Mr. Igwe Nnamdi Chukwudi. He was joined by NEMA staff members and the lawmaker representing Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru West Federal Constituency, Hon. Dibiagwu Eugene Okechukwu.

According to NEMA officials, the intervention was aimed at reducing the hardship being experienced by victims of the crisis and reassuring the affected households of government’s concern for their wellbeing. The event drew community leaders, local government representatives, as well as delegations of women and youth groups who witnessed the exercise.

Relief supplies shared by NEMA included foodstuffs such as bags of rice, vegetable oil, spaghetti, seasoning cubes, salt, and tomato paste. To complement the Agency’s intervention, Hon. Dibiagwu Eugene provided additional empowerment materials including sewing machines, grinding machines, and mosquito nets, thereby combining immediate humanitarian aid with long-term support for economic recovery.

In his remarks, Hon. Dibiagwu praised the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, for her proactive and compassionate response. He emphasized that the timely gesture demonstrates the Agency’s dedication to safeguarding lives and livelihoods whenever emergencies arise, while also fostering hope and resilience among affected communities.
