The Niger State Police Command has been commended for its professionalism and discipline during the recent local government elections in the state.

This was disclosed in a statement released by the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, on Monday.

The commendation came from Lazarus Nwachukwu, National President of the National Council of NGOs and CSOs, who led a team of observers to monitor the polls. Dr. Nwachukwu presented a letter of commendation to the Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, at his office on Monday, 2nd November 2025.

“The police conduct during the election is satisfactory. Officers and men discharged their duties professionally,” Nwachukwu said, adding that the commendation was in recognition of their commitment and discipline.

In response, Elleman thanked the observer team for their objectivity and kind gesture.

“We appreciate the team for finding time to observe the Local Government election in the state and for their commendation.

“I assure you that the command will not relent in maintaining high standards in the discharge of our duties,” he said.

PUNCH Online had reported that the voter turnout in the Niger State local government elections on Saturday was low, with violence recorded in some areas.

It reported incidents where hoodlums accompanying party officials attempted to set an electoral office building on fire after dousing it with petrol.

The intervention of local residents prevented further damage.

The spokesperson, Abiodun, confirmed that the command was promptly informed and had made several arrests in connection with the skirmishes.
