Nigerian Police Commissioner Orders Release Of Twin Babies, Teenage Mother Held By Imo Hospital Over Unpaid Bills

Published

The twins’ mother, 19-year-old Precious Okere, was left in a difficult situation following a cesarean section, with the family unable to cover the delivery costs.

The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Aboki Danjuma, on Thursday directed the immediate release of twin boys, Chidindu and Chijindu, who were held in a maternity hospital since May 4.

It was gathered that the incident occurred at Goodwill Maternity in Obinze, Owerri West Local Government Area of the state.

The twins’ mother, 19-year-old Precious Okere, was left in a difficult situation following a cesarean section, with the family unable to cover the delivery costs.

According to reports, Nwamadi allegedly made a joking request for the twins, prompting the police chief to express concern over his lack of empathy.

During a meeting at the command headquarters in Owerri, Danjuma emphasized the seriousness of the situation, scolding Nwamadi for his insensitivity despite offers from compassionate individuals willing to pay the outstanding medical fees.

The twins’ grandmother, Mrs. Ngozi Okere, had petitioned the CP, alleged that the doctor had pressured her and her daughter to hand over the twins as a condition for settling the medical bill.

The mother corroborated these claims during the meeting with the police commissioner.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, some compassionate Nigerians led by an activist journalist, Chidiebube Okeoma, went to the maternity to secure the release of the twins and their mother but the doctor hiked the bill.

Ekwutosblog  gathered that all entreaties made by the good Nigerians for him to accept the initial bill he gave fell on deaf ears.

However, the nurses confronted the 19-year-old mother of the twins and her own mother.

During the altercation, the children’s grandmother lost her phone, sustained injuries, and the young mother was also assaulted.

Okeoma had led a campaign advocating for the release of the twins, who had remained at the maternity home for nearly six months.

The advocacy gained support from some individuals who made financial contributions.

At the time of this report, the doctor was seen at the Scorpion Squad Unit of the police command giving a statement.

Lady cries out after her brother was knocked down by keke on his way to early morning test at UniAbuja, faces possible leg amputation

A visibly distressed lady has cried out over a tragic accident involving her younger brother, a student of the University of Abuja.

According to her account, the incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when students were struggling to get to school for a test allegedly scheduled around 5 a.m.

She explained that while her brother and a coursemate were trying to cross the road in front of the University of Abuja, a commercial tricycle (keke), reportedly driving against traffic, knocked them down.

As of the time she shared the video, her brother was said to be unconscious and already being prepared for surgery. Doctors, she stated, described his condition as critical, adding that there was a possibility his leg might have to be amputated.

The lady further claimed that although the tricycle rider was arrested, there were moves to release him, and that the school authorities had not reached out or offered any form of support since the incident.

She also revealed that the hospital initially rejected her brother due to the seriousness of his condition before eventually admitting him, while medical bills continued to pile up beyond what she could afford.
