Renowned Nollywood actress Sola Sobowale recently shared her remarkable journey of transitioning from fame in Nigeria to starting anew as a caregiver in the UK.

In a candid conversation on the King of Talks podcast with Teju Babyface, Sobowale revealed the motivations behind her decision to temporarily leave Nigeria between 2004 and 2016, despite her popularity as Toyin Tomato on the hit series Super Story.

Describing her experience, Sobowale recounted the challenges of embracing a new role as an “elevated omo odo” (house help) in the UK, where she pursued qualifications to become a team leader.

Despite encountering fellow Nigerians, Jamaicans, and Ghanaians who recognized her, Sobowale remained committed to her belief in the dignity of labor and providing for her family.

Addressing skepticism from a Nigerian colleague, Sobowale defended her choice, emphasizing the importance of securing her children’s future.

Throughout her time abroad, Sobowale faced unfounded rumors, including false claims of her arrest and involvement in drug trafficking in Saudi Arabia.

Isaac Fayose, brother of a former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has pledged N50 million to anyone who can prove he was awarded contracts during his brother’s tenure, emphasising that his success comes from God, not from any deals with his brother.

Fayose made this known in a video posted on his Instagram account on Saturday with the caption, “If any of you can show me where I get contract from Ekiti when my brother was there I will dash you 50 million naira. All my success is from God almighty… Enough is enough!!!”

Fayose who spoke partly in pidgin in the video said, “Many of you come and say I’m spending Ekiti money. My brother did not give me any single job as a governor, I repeat and I’m saying it boldly.

“If any of you can find where I get one single contract from my brother, I will give you N 50 million. All of you, even my success in life, you attach it to Ekiti, to my brother. It is a fat lie.

Fayose expressed frustration over people assuming he is spending Ekiti money, reiterating that his brother never gave him any contracts.

“I personally didn’t take any single contract from my brother. Come out and say it boldly, he should say it, anywhere they see me or see my name or my company take contract from Ekiti. I have never, I am not a contractor.

“I am a trader, I am a business man and I have always believed in me working but anywhere I go they say he is spending Ekiti money, we cover it because it doesn’t matter, but right now that they are now trying to say no you cannot talk, you should shut up, you should do this. No I will talk. I will stand for Ekiti people as long as I am alive.

Zelenskyy disappointed once again with the West

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed frustration over the West’s lack of response following confirmation that North Korean troops have been deployed in Russia.

Washington recently reported that 10,000 North Korean soldiers were sent to Russia, with at least 8,000 stationed in the Kursk region. Volodymyr Zelenskyy has openly voiced his dissatisfaction with the stark lack of reaction from Western nations.

In an interview with South Korea’s KBS TV channel, the Ukrainian leader shared that he anticipates his forces and those of Kim Jong Un may soon face each other in combat “within the coming days.”

“Putin is checking the reaction of the West … And I believe that after all these reactions, Putin will decide and increase the contingent … The reaction that is there today is nothing, it is zero,” he said according to Reuters.

This comment adds to Volodymyr Zelensky’s growing criticism of the West, which has slowed the supply of military equipment as Russian forces continue to make gains on Ukraine’s eastern front.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has echoed similar concerns, noting that the two armies might clash soon on the battlefield.

“We’ve not yet seen these troops deploy into combat against Ukrainian forces, but we would expect that to happen in the coming days,” Antony Blinken said.

Kemi Badenoch elected new leader of UK Conservative Party

In a closely contested race, Nigerian-born Kemi Badenoch has emerged as the new leader of the UK Conservative Party. Badenoch, 44, and Member of Parliament for North West Essex, secured victory over Robert Jenrick with 53,806 votes to his 41,388, following a months-long campaign.

In her victory speech, Badenoch emphasized the Conservative Party’s need to regain public trust and hold the Labour government accountable as the official opposition. She acknowledged past mistakes and called for a renewed commitment to principles, standards, and integrity within the party. “Our party is critical to the success of our country,” she stated, urging the need for honesty and a fresh start for the party and the nation.

Badenoch also suggested that those who ran against her might be part of her team moving forward, although James Cleverly announced he would return to the backbenches.

With a focus on unity and readiness for the next election, Badenoch declared, “It is time to get down to business. It is time to renew.” Her win signals a shift in leadership and a call to reset Conservative Party politics for the challenges ahead.
