Nollywood’s Femi Adebayo has emerged triumphant in a three-year legal tussle against piracy, marking a significant win for the entertainment industry.

Despite the global acclaim for its storytelling prowess, piracy continues to threaten the industry’s prosperity.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, Adebayo revealed his battle against a major YouTube distributor that shamelessly exploited his film, “Survival of Jelili.” The cunning manipulation of his 2019 masterpiece within another video amassed views, deceiving audiences worldwide.

Adebayo expressed gratitude to his legal champions, Bola Adebowale & Co Legal Practitioners, for their relentless dedication and expertise.

Their unwavering commitment, backed by compelling evidence and sharp arguments, steered the case towards victory, resulting in a handsome ₦25 million reward.

Highlighting the nefarious impact of piracy on the Nigerian film scene, Adebayo lamented how such actions deter potential investors, hindering the industry’s growth.

His sentiments resonate with fellow filmmaker Toyin Abraham, who previously shared her ordeal of panic attacks and hospitalization due to piracy.
