When Job Responsibilities Expand Beyond the Call of Duty

Published

on

As an employee, it’s common for your role to evolve over time. However, when your responsibilities significantly deviate from your original job description, it may be time to reassess your situation.

The Issue:

You’re employed as a driver with a salary of 120,000 Naira. However, your boss assigns you various menial tasks unrelated to driving, such as:

– Washing the car
– Running errands
– Buying items from markets
– Performing gardening tasks

Your Options:

1. Request a salary increase : You can ask for a raise to 240,000 Naira, considering your expanded responsibilities. A well-structured letter outlining your reasons may persuade your boss.
2. Resign : If you’re unhappy with the additional tasks and your boss rejects your salary increase request, you can choose to resign. We can help you draft a resignation letter.

Important Considerations:

– Your boss can assign tasks outside your original role, but consistently doing so may warrant a reevaluation of your compensation.
– You can’t sue for additional pay for tasks you’ve already completed, but you can negotiate a salary increase or seek new opportunities.

Take Action:

Decide whether to request a salary increase or explore new opportunities. We can assist you in drafting a salary increase letter or resignation letter, whichever you prefer.

Additional Resources:

Consider investing in resources that can enhance your skills and career prospects.

The choice is yours.

Armed bandits suspected to be members of the notorious Lakurawa gang have killed two farmers in a deadly attack on Ayama village in the Balle District of Sokoto State.

The incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on Monday, July 29, while the victims were working on their farmland at the village outskirts.

According to Zagazola Makama, the attackers rode on motorcycles and opened fire with sophisticated weapons, killing two men on the spot. Those killed are Tukur Muhammed, 30, and Sa’ad Muhammed.

Troops under Operation FANSAN YANMA swiftly responded to the attack and engaged the bandits in a gunfight. Despite the effort, the assailants managed to escape across the border into the neighbouring Niger Republic.

The bodies of the slain farmers were taken to a hospital for documentation and burial.

In the aftermath of the attack, security patrols in the area have been intensified to prevent further incursions.
