Leadership of Imo State chapter of national union of road transport workers ably led by indefatigable State Chairman Hon Dr Samuel Udeh JP FCAI (Eze Umuokorobia) paid a courtesy visit to the newly appointed commissioner for transport Hon Dr Sir Chika Benson Abazu at the State ministry of transport.

Upon being received by the honourable commissioner, Chief Samuel Udeh congratulated the brilliant commissioner for his reassignment as the commissioner for transport in the State.

Hon Udeh who was accompanied by the members of State Adminstrative Council (SAC) applauded the State Governor His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma for his carefully selection of men and women of high esteem with proven track records to join hands with him in achieving his wonderful dream of a better and prosperous Imo State.

Ukwenga briefed the honourable commissioner on some of the challenges the union is faced with, and beckoned on him to take up these challenges to the State government.

Amb Sam informed the commissioner about the rebranded image of the union under his leadership as the State Chairman and assured the honourable commissioner Dr Abazu of the union cooperation and partnership with his office to bring reform in the transport sector, more especially in the road transport system.

Dr Chika Abazu welcomed the members of the national union of road transport workers and expressed joy for their visit.

He said, for me national union is a very noble profession, not minding how they are seen or the general wrong believe about the union.

He further said; your visit is very emotional because it reminds me of old memories of my late father who was a member of the national union,as being owner of tipers applying from Akokwa to Orlu.

I am a product of national union he stated.

Dr Abazu who was formerly assigned to commerce and industry, brought reform to the ministry that made the Executive Governor of Imo State Sen Hope Uzodimma to reassigned him to the transport sector and urged him to replicate same transformation at his former ministry to transport sector in the State.

He continued, i am aware of some of these challenges you have mentioned earlier,i understood national union very well, based on my experience then through my father’s involvement in transport system and as a member of the national union.

He stated, i am a medical doctor, and have worked in the presidency for more than 20yrs as a director.

A candidate of All Progressives Congress for federal house of representative for Ideato Federal Constituency, I contested against Ikenga Ugochinyere at the last election, but appell court said otherwise.

I was invited by His Excellency Sen Hope Uzodimma to come and contribute my quota in the development of our dear State Imo. I was formerly assigned to commerce and industry, which i brought some level of reform in the ministry within a very short stay in the ministry, and then reassigned to transport ministry to replicate same transformation in the transport sector.

My prayer is that the reform agenda i have backed upon will bring positive result to transport sector.

There is no economy that can run without good transport network, the movement from one point to another is the key thing for business, commerce and development, and when that movement is truncated it affects the economy.

Road transport system is the engine room that drives economy of the State, your are an integral part of that chain that will drive the State economy.

So,i am here to work with you and together build our State toward ideas of the Governor of Imo State Sen Hope Uzodimma.

Transport sector is one of the important sector that contributes in building the economy of a State.

Honourable Dr Chika assured the road transport workers in the State of working in tandem with the union, and agreed to partner with the union and reform the sector to the benefits and good of all Imolites.

Chief Abazu commended the State Governor Sen Hope Uzodimma for his wonderful performances, especially in construction of good and quality road network in the State, he pointed some of the good roads in the State, and described the project as signature projects of the Governor.

He said construction of good roads is one step at a time, as other areas that needs attention of the government on bad roads, will surely be attended to, just like a flyover bridge project is currently ongoing at Assumpta Catholic church axis.

He again welcomed the members of the union, and assured of having a good synergy with the transport workers in the State.

My doors are always wide open for interactions and sharing of ideas that will make the transport sector more better for investors and easy movement from one place to another.

Honourable commissioner concluded by saying ” In me you have an ally to work with”

” I have come to make you work more easier”

Court order stopping Rivers’ allocation, invitation to anarchy – Wabara

Former Senate President and the Chairman Board of Trustees (BoT), of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Adolphus Wabara, has expressed disappointment over Wednesday’s judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja which ordered the seizure of statutory allocations to Rivers State Government.

The former Senate President who described the judgment as judicial insensitivity and an invitation to anarchy, said that “the judiciary has failed Nigeria.”

Senator Wabara who spoke exclusively with Vanguard, warned that the “ill-conceived court order is capable of cutting off Nigeria’s oil revenue” as youths in the state might be tempted to return to the creeks in response.

He further argued that if the judiciary had handled Rivers’s crisis “professionally abinitio, instead of dishing out conflicting intentional orders and judgements, Rivers State wouldn’t have been in this judicial mess.”

“But for these intentional orders and judgments, INEC would have conducted an election to replace the 27 lawmakers who have constitutionally lost their seats”, Senator Wabara fumed.

He further thundered:”These judges have gone haywire. Nigeria is gone! The judiciary has failed Nigeria. As far as I’m concerned, Nigeria is gone!

“Can they (judges) also give an order that the allocation meant for the judiciary be stopped?”

The former Senate President who recalled that he had earlier warned that the smouldering political crisis in Rivers, was capable of consuming Nigeria if unchecked, urged President Bola Tinubu to act fast.

“I had earlier advised President Tinubu to wade in and stop the mess in Rivers because this crisis in Rivers State , if not stopped, is capable of consuming Nigeria.

Do they know that Rivers’ allocation is not for Gov. Siminalayi Fubara but for the development of the entire state? And what it means in essence, is that workers will not be paid and Government activities halted. Did the judge think of the multiplier effect on the peace and security of the state?

“I’m not a lawyer but I believe that certain judgments should follow logic, and not just somebody sitting down to issue a corrupt judgement. This judgment will just grind Rivers State to a halt, and by so doing, they are inviting anarchy and restiveness because the people might be tempted to go back to the creeks.

“By the time they stop the source of that money that Nigeria gathers to share every month, there will be no more revenue for the entire country to share again. Why must we take that risk?

“I’m in pain. I weep for this country. This is not the democracy we all anticipated. The CJN should intensify efforts in calling the judges to order. If she invited them just a few days ago to admonish them and this thing is happening, then it means there’s no hope for the country “.
