Obi should stop deceiving himself, No Igbo man can win a delegate election at national level — Chief Chekwas Okorie(APGA chieftain)
Chief Chekwas Okorie, a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance ( APGA), during an interview with The Nigerian Tribune correspondent, stated that the 2027 election would likely take the shape of a North-South divide.
However, he noted that if Peter Obi were to contest the presidency, the South would end up splitting its votes. He claimed that Peter Obi, cannot stand a chance to win the presidential ticket of the ADC. He said:
“I’ve said it publicly, he cannot win. He isn’t Alex Ekwueme and he can’t measure up to the late Ekwueme’s profile. No Igbo man can win a delegates election at the national level. Peter Obi should stop deceiving himself. It is very simple. The delegates at national convention is on the basis of equality of local government”
He stated that the North -West alone has 188 local governments! South-East has 95 so even if 95 per cent of delegates from South-East goes to that convention, how will they deliver Peter Obi.
According to him, within the ADC, any presidential aspirant outside of Atiku who is not from the North would ultimately fail to secure the party’s ticket, even though a free and fair primary might be held—because Atiku would still emerge the winner.
