OCTOBER 1 MESSAGE FROM ADC IMO STATE CHAPTER TO NDI-IMO AND NIGERIANS

Fellow compatriots, Ndi-Imo, and beloved Nigerians,

On this historic day as we mark Nigeria’s Independence, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Imo State Chapter, extends heartfelt greetings to all citizens and invites us to reflect deeply on the journey of our nation – a journey marked by courage and sacrifice, but also by recurring disappointments and squandered opportunities.

Sixty-five years after liberation from colonial rule, the promise of freedom remains largely unfulfilled. At the federal level, governance continues to fall short of the people’s aspirations, with policies that deepen hardship, weaken national cohesion, and erode public trust. Here in Imo State, leadership has too often prioritised politics over people, leaving our citizens to grapple with insecurity, youth unemployment, infrastructural decay, and a growing sense of abandonment.

Yet, despite the frustrations, hope remains alive. Our destiny is not at the mercy of transient administrations or their failures. It is written in the resilience, creativity, and collective will of our people – the same spirit that brought independence in 1960 and the same spirit that will one day bring renewal and transformation to our land.

To Ndi-Imo, we say: do not give up. Every challenge we face today is an opportunity to demand better, to act wiser, and to shape a future that reflects our true potential. Together, as a people united by shared values and a common dream, we can build an Imo where governance serves the governed and a Nigeria where justice, peace, and prosperity are not mere slogans but lived realities.

On this Independence Day, let us recommit ourselves to the work of nation-building – believing that, though the night may be long, the dawn of a new Nigeria and a greater Imo is surely approaching.
