OHANEZE YOUTH COUNCIL REJECTS EBONYI GOVERNOR’S ATTACK ON IGBO TRADITIONAL INSTITUTIONS — DEMANDS IMMEDIATE RETRACTION AND PUBLIC APOLOGY
*The Ohaneze Youth Council (OYC) unequivocally condemns the reckless, unconstitutional, and culturally offensive statement credited to the Governor of Ebonyi State against our revered traditional rulers.*
*Let it be stated clearly and without ambiguity; no governor, no political office holder, and no democratic institution has the power—legally, traditionally, or morally—to dissolve, dethrone, or intimidate Igbo traditional rulers.*
*Traditional institutions in Igbo land are sacred.*
*They are not creations of modern politics. They predate state governments, governors, and political parties. In many Igbo communities, leadership emerges through well-defined customary and rotational systems.*
*These processes cannot be overridden by executive arrogance.*
*The Igbo people are republican by nature. Power belongs to the people. Our Ezes and traditional rulers are custodians of our culture, history, and communal values. Any attempt to subjugate them is a direct attack on Ndi Igbo.*
*What the Governor has done amounts to executive lawlessness and abuse of power. It is a disgraceful desecration of Igbo heritage and an insult to our collective dignity.*
*Ohaneze Youth Council views this action as:-*
*An unlawful overreach of executive authority*
*A dangerous precedent against traditional autonomy.*
*A deliberate humiliation of Igbo institutions*
*A clear abuse of power*
*We therefore DEMAND the following; Immediate retraction of the Governor’s statement.*
*A public apology to the affected traditional rulers and their communities.*
*An end to the intimidation and harassment of traditional institutions.*
*Full respect for Igbo customs, norms, and leadership structures.*
*We call on all traditional rulers to remain resolute and continue discharging their sacred duties without fear or political pressure.*
*Let it also be known that should the Ebonyi State Government proceed with any further unlawful actions, the affected traditional rulers are fully within their rights to seek legal redress against the state.*
*We remind the Governor , you have no veto power over Igbo tradition.*
*Governance is not dictatorship.*
*Power is not monarchy.*
*Igbo land is not a political playground.*
*Any continued assault on our traditional institutions will be met with organized resistance from Igbo youths across the federation.*
*Ohaneze Youth Council will not fold its arms while Igbo heritage is trampled upon.*
*Enough is enough.*
*Respect our culture.*
*Respect our traditional rulers.*
*Respect Ndi Igbo.*
Signed,
*Office of the President*
