The maiden edition of the Oracle Mbaise Ancient Kingdom Unity Soccer Tournament is set to kick off this October at Oboama/Umunama, Ezinihitte Mbaise LGA, Imo State. The grassroots competition, which will run until January 3, 2026, is being staged in loving memory of legendary football icon, Ezeji Hi-Chief Christopher A. Nwandiko (Ugo 1 of Oboama/Umunama).

Powered by Ezeji Obinna Nwandiko, popularly known as The Oracle, the tournament is designed to showcase raw talent, promote unity among villages, and strengthen the culture of sports development in the Mbaise Nation. Oboama/Umunama, fondly called “Obo/Umu” and regarded as the Seat of Creation and ancestral home of all Ezinihitte clans, will serve as the symbolic venue for the historic first edition.

A total of 18 villages will battle for honours in the competition, including Umuekwere, Umuohii, Umuatum, Umuogwogwo, Umuosehi, Umuozuzu, Ogbor, Umuoduku, Nru, Umunehi, Umualika, Amagu, Umuome, Avoh, Umuoshi, Okwu, Umugaa, and Oguna. Organizers say the Unity Cup will not only provide entertainment but also serve as a breeding ground for future stars who could rise from the grassroots to represent the state, the nation, and even shine on international stages.

With the backing of FIFA’s Fair Play initiative and the Nigerian Football Federation’s grassroots development agenda, the Oracle Unity Cup 2025/26 is expected to blend competition with community spirit.
