Osun Poly students protest EFCC arrest, vandalize vehicles .

Students of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, have protested the arrest of their colleagues by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
Tht students, DAILY POST gathered, attacked some buildings on the campus of the polytechnic, where they also vandalised vehicles belonging to staff members.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred late on Thursday.
DAILY POST had reported that the EFCC operators from the Ibadan Zonal office had carried out a midnight raid on some hostels around the Owode-Ede area.
Some students were arrested during the sting operation and taken to the Ibadan zonal office of the anti-graft agency.
But the management of the polytechnic, in a statement signed by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Sola Lawal, said the identities of those students reportedly arrested could not be immediately ascertained.
Displeased by the development, some yet-to-be-identified students vandalised buildings within the premises and vehicles.
Two students residing in female hostels located within the premises of the polytechnic, said those involved hurled pebbles at some buildings, including the staff club, and damaged some vehicles.
One of the students said, “The students were protesting the arrest of our colleagues by the EFCC. They hurled stones at the administrative building, but they concentrated on the staff club.
“They damaged some vehicles there. Those involved came to campus between 7 pm and 8 pm on Thursday.”
The institution’s spokesperson, Sola Lawal, when contacted confirmed the incident.
He said, “The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, condemns the act of vandalism carried out last night (Thursday) by some misguided students which led to the vandalism of staff vehicles at the staff club.
“Lastly, the management is using this medium to warn mischief makers whose agenda is to disrupt the ongoing first-semester examination, as any students or fifth columnist caught disturbing the peace and tranquility of the institution will be dealt with decisively; to be forewarned is to be forearmed.”

FG Approves Nine New Private Universities

The Federal Government has approved nine new private universities, including Tazkiyah University (Kaduna), Leadership University (Abuja), Jimoh Babalola University (Kwara), Bridget University (Imo), Greenland University (Jigawa), JEFAP University (Niger), Azione Verde University (Imo), Unique Open University (Lagos), and American Open University (Ogun).

Education Minister Tunji Alausa said the approvals clear a backlog of applications, some pending for over six years, and follow stricter guidelines. A moratorium is now in place on new applications that do not meet the updated standards.

NYSC member found dead in Bauchi lodge

A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has been found dead in his lodge at Dambam Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Security analyst, Zagazola Makama shared the news in a post on X on Monday.

He said the incident happened on Sunday morning.

The deceased identified as Mr. Nwokedi Chukwu Ebuka Gerald, 28, with state code number BA/25A/2069, was discovered by fellow Christian corps members while they were preparing for Sunday service.

Police said they received a report around 9:20 a.m. and visited the scene, after which the body was taken to the General Hospital in Dambam.

“A medical doctor confirmed him dead.His remains have since been moved to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, for preservation.

“There were no signs of violence on the body, and no foul play is suspected. Investigation is ongoing,” Makama added.

A fashion designer claimed a world record by creating a show-stopping robe with 50-metre sleeves.

The longest sleeves on a garment is 51.20 metres (167.97 ft) and was achieved by Samuel Chinecherem Ezeh (Nigeria) in Onitsha, Anambra State, Nigeria.

That’s longer than the Statue of Liberty is high and longer than an Olympic-size swimming pool.

Samuel made this attempt to create a landmark piece in the field of fashion.

Samuel, 27, who works as a fashion designer and tailor while studying at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, had to overcome a lot to make the garment.
