Over 25 killed as suspected herdsmen attack Edikwu Ankpali in Apa, Benue

No fewer than 25 persons have been confirmed dead following an attack by suspected herdsmen on Edikwu Ankpali community in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State.

Ekwutosblog gathered that the assailants stormed the area around 6 p.m., opening fire on unsuspecting villagers.

Sources also confirmed that several residents were abducted during the deadly assault.

A resident of the village, identified as Vincent, told Ekwutosblog that the community was completely overrun by the armed attackers.

Suspected gunmen kidnap man in Benue

Gunmen have kidnapped a middle-aged man, Ortese Tarlumun Joseph, in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, after shooting at his family during an attempted escape.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama revealed the incident in a post on X on Sunday.

He said the abduction happened on Friday, June 27, around 6:00 p.m. near Tomanyiin Main Village in Nzorov district.

Sources told Makama that Ortese was returning from the farm with his wife and son when two armed men came out of the bush and ordered them to lie down.

“Out of fear, the family tried to run, and the gunmen fired two gunshots.

“Mrs. Ortese said she later heard her husband calling for help but could not find him. It was later discovered that the attackers had taken him away,” Makama wrote

The family’s Toyota Corolla was found at the scene.

Security personnel launched a search operation shortly after the incident, but neither the kidnappers nor the victim had been found at the time of reporting.

Confusion as Israeli man dies in Abuja hotel

A 73-year-old Israeli man, Avi Warshaviak, has died after falling ill in a hotel at the Garki area of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

According to a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X on Sunday, the incident happened on Saturday, at the Corinthia Villa Hotel, where the man was staying with his wife.

Sources said Warshaviak suddenly developed a health problem around 9:51 a.m. and was quickly taken to the Asokoro General Hospital.

Sadly, doctors confirmed him dead shortly after arrival.

“The Chief Security Officer of the hotel, Okorie Emmanuel, reported the case to the Garki Divisional Police Headquarters at about 11:23 a.m,” Makama wrote.

According to Makama, police officers visited the hotel and the hospital, took records of the incident, and moved the body to the hospital’s mortuary for an autopsy.

Police sources added that efforts are now being made to reach the Israeli Embassy in Nigeria to carry out the necessary consular procedures.

Prominent Nigerian businessman Aminu Dantata is dead

Renowned Nigerian businessman and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, has passed away at the age of 94.

A family source confirmed that the elder statesman died on Friday night in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, after a brief illness.

He died at about 3am Nigerian time at a hospital in Abu Dhabi.

The source added that funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

Born on May 19, 1931 in Kano, Alhaji Aminu Dantata was a major figure in Nigeria’s business landscape for decades.

He was a respected industrialist and a key player in the country’s private sector growth.

He is survived by seven children and many grandchildren. Among his children is Alhaji Tajuddeen Aminu Dantata.
