Peter Obi’s Court Case In Anambra Is Why They Don’t Have Elections The Same Time With Others- Reno Omokri
Reno Omokri, former presidential spokesperson, has explained how legal battles involving governors have led to what he described as “optical elections” in some Nigerian states.
Speaking in an interview with Channels TV, Omokri noted that there have been cases where governors were impeached, or declared losers in elections, only to later reclaim their mandates through the courts.
He explained that in such situations, when the governors eventually won their cases, they argued that the time spent in court should not be counted against their four-year tenure. Courts sometimes ruled in their favor, altering the election calendar for those states.
Citing an example, Omokri pointed to Peter Obi in Anambra State. He recalled that Obi’s court victory is the reason elections in Anambra no longer hold at the same time as in other states, making them “optical elections.” In Reno Omokri’s words:
“An example is Peter, and that’s why in Anambra they don’t have elections with other people, that’s why in some other states they have optical elections, like Osun”
