The Nigeria Police Force has been inundated with enquiries concerning the planned demolition of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) Shopping Complex, Ikeja, Lagos. It has become imperative to properly establish that the complex, a property of the Nigeria Police Officer’s Wives Association, which is officially allocated to wives of Police Officers and their relatives, has been scheduled for demolition to enable the Force commence immediate construction of a modern shopping complex on the same land.

The decision to demolish and reconstruct is predicated on the fact that professional opinion indicate that the structure as it is constitutes a looming environmental hazard, as the site is prone to flood, and may be susceptible to sudden collapse, hence the need for immediate landscaping and reconstruction. The planned demolition and reconstruction will be in phases and is in good faith for the betterment of all concerned.

All necessary legal requirements have been duly met. The current occupants of the complex have been given more-than-enough notice of the demolition to enable their evacuation from the facility in good time, necessary steps have been taken to temporarily accommodate them within the same complex while the reconstruction lasts. Equally, the relevant Lagos State Government agency, according to its expert advice, has been approached, required help sought, and necessary approvals for demolition obtained.

While the demolition will proceed as planned, Nigerians are hereby urged to disregard frivolous claims, unsubstantiated protests, and media blackmail alleging wrongdoing and illegality on the part of the Force or the POWA. The Police and its affiliates, like the POWA, will always be committed to better welfare and standard of living for its personnel and their families.

Kano govt denies acquiring $6.6 million loan under Yusuf administration

Published

The Kano State Government has emphatically denied securing a new $6.6 million external loan under the state government led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, labelling the accusations false, misleading and politically motivated.

The denial was in respect to a report on June 11, 2025, which quoted political group APC Patriotic Volunteers as saying the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) led government has contracted the loan within two years of being in the office.

In a press statement issued by Dr. Hamisu Sadi Ali Director General of the Kano State Public Debt Management Office (PDMO), the state government clarified that the report is “malicious, unfounded, and politically motivated,” and took a swipe against the group under the leadership of Alhaji Usman Alhaji, the group’s leader, which was the Secretary to the State Governor in the administration of ex-Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the government’s ally.

“It is surprising and sad that a person who was part of the administration who enacted the Public Debt Management Office Law in 2021, to exhibit such ignorance or deliberate misinformation” the statement explained.
Quoting Section 4(b) of the Public Debt Management Office Law, Dr. Sadi Ali emphasized that no loan can be undertaken by the state government without the direct involvement and knowledge of the PDMO.

He clarified that since taking office, the current NNPP administration has not signed or contracted any new external or domestic loans. Instead, the government has been focusing on servicing what it described as “excessive debts” inherited from the previous administration.

“The APC Patriotic Volunteers should provide verifiable evidence if they insist a loan was obtained. This includes the name of the creditor, a copy of the loan agreement, the intended purpose of the loan, terms and conditions, and records of negotiations,” Dr. Sadi Ali stated.

He added that the people of Kano are well-informed and can distinguish between factual information and politically motivated propaganda.

“The current administration remains committed to delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Kano and will not be distracted by politically engineered falsehoods,” he said.

The PDMO concluded its statement by urging the public to disregard what it called a “smear campaign driven by political interests rather than facts.”
